Two NHL players were placed on waivers on Wednesday: Vinnie Hinostroza of the Buffalo Sabres and Michael McCarron of the Nashville Predators.

The Sabres added Hinostroza as a free agent on a one-year contract ahead of the 2021-22 season and they brought him back on another one-year deal worth $1.7 million after he scored 13 goals and 25 points over 62 games for the team.

This season hasn’t been as successful for Hinostroza, as he’s put up just eight points over the course of 19 games. Hinostroza bounced in and out of Buffalo’s lineup this season and he also missed a handful of games in December with an undisclosed injury.

According to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News, Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams has spoken to other teams in the NHL to gauge their interest in acquiring the veteran winger.

McCarron, the No. 25 overall selection by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft, was traded from the Habs to the Predators during the 2019-20 season in exchange for Laurent Dauphin. Over parts of three seasons with Nashville, McCarron has scored eight goals and 16 points in 72 games while racking up 103 penalty minutes.

Back in December, the NHL Players’ Association announced that McCarron would be unavailable to the club for an indefinite period of time while he received care from the player assistance program. According to Elliotte Friedman, the plan for McCarron is for him to get some game action with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL.

McCarron has one goal and one assist over 15 games with the Preds this season and last played on December 8.
