A veteran depth player could be on his way down, or to another team.

On Monday, the Seattle Kraken placed center Devin Shore on waivers.

The move comes just three days after Matty Beniers was activated off injured reserve. The former Michigan Wolverine missed five games earlier this month with an upper-body injury.

This the second time the 29-year-old has been placed on waivers since he signed with the Kraken last offseason. Shore was put on waivers before the season began, cleared, and joined Seattle’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Coachella Firebirds.

Shore was called up on Oct. 19, scored a goal and an assist in nine games before getting sent back down again. After returning to the Kraken on Dec. 7, the Ajax, Ontario native put up two assists in 12 games, his last point coming on Dec. 16 against the Los Angeles Kings.

Shore is currently on a one-year contract worth $775,000. If he clears, he can re-join the Firebirds. In nine AHL games this season, he has notched three goals and three assists. The Firebirds, who sit atop the Pacific Division, are set to play on Wednesday against the Calgary Wranglers.

In his eight-year career, Shore has made stops with the Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers. In 443 games, he has scored 51 goals and 88 assists, registering an assist in four playoff games.

Shore has been up and down between the NHL and AHL over the last couple of seasons, having spent time with the Oilers’ primary affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, during the 2022-23 campaign.

The Kraken (21-18-10) will be facing the San Jose Sharks in their final game before the All-Star break on Tuesday night. They are currently fifth in the Pacific Division, seven points back of the Edmonton Oilers for third, but are just two points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
