The Seattle Kraken announced that goaltender Philipp Grubauer would not return to Saturday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after suffering a lower-body injury in the second period.

Defenseman Justin Schultz also was ruled out after suffering an upper-body injury.

Grubauer went to the locker room after sliding across the crease to stop Anthony Cirelli from scoring, he was down in discomfort before limping down the tunnel. The Rosenheim, Germany product stopped 21 out of 23 shots and held a .913 save percentage.

This season, Grubauer has accumulated a 5-9-1 record, a 3.26 goals-against average, and a .883 save percentage through 16 games. He is in the third year of a six-year, $35,400,000 million contract he signed with the Kraken in the summer of 2021 prior to the Kraken’s first NHL season. Grubauer’s contract has a cap hit of $5,900,000 million.

Schultz logged 8:11 minutes of ice time and was a minus-one before taking a puck to the face off an Anthony Cirelli shot. This season, the 33-year-old has two goals and seven assists for nine points in 26 games and sits second in points for defenseman on the Kraken behind Vince Dunn.

The Kelowna, British Columbia, product is in the final year of a two-year, $6,000,000 million contract he signed with the Kraken in 2022. The contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $3,000,000 million.

Following the Kraken’s game against Tampa Bay, they will face off against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday and the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The Kraken sit sixth in the Pacific Division.

Head coach Dave Hakstol will likely provide an update in the post-game press conference or prior to tomorrow’s tilt against the Wild.
