Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa has been named the Western Hockey League’s top goaltender for the month of April, the league announced on Tuesday.

Cossa, 19, went 6–1–0 with a .935 save percentage in seven regular-season and playoff appearances in April. He slammed the door shut as the Oil Kings swept the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the first round of the WHL playoffs, allowing just six goals in four games and posting a 25-save shutout in Game 2.

The Detroit Red Wings selected Cossa with the 15th-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, making him the first goaltender off the board. The 6’6″, 215-lb. netminder posted a 33–9–3 record and a .913 save percentage in 46 regular-season games with the Oil Kings this season.

The WHL previously named Cossa its Goaltender of the Month for October of 2021, when he posted single-game save percentages north of .920 in eight of his 10 appearances with the Oil Kings.

Cossa signed his entry-level contract with the Red Wings on Aug. 14, 2021. He and Alex Nedeljkovic are the only two goaltenders under contract with the Red Wings through the 2022–23 season.

After defeating the Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs, Cossa and the Oil Kings will return to action on Thursday for Game 1 of their semifinal series against the Red Deer Rebels.
