Two Canadian teams made a transaction on Friday, as the Ottawa Senators acquired forward Wyatt Bongiovanni from the Winnipeg Jets for future considerations.

Since the trade was made after the March 8 NHL Trade Deadline, the 24-year-old won’t be eligible to play for the Senators for the remainder of the season. Bongiovanni is expected to dress for the AHL’s Belleville Senators for the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Through 34 games with the Jets’ AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, Bongiovanni has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. In three professional seasons, the undrafted forward has 21 goals and 12 assists for 33 points in 90 career AHL games.

Through four seasons of college hockey with Quinnipiac University, Bongiovanni had 50 goals and 40 assists for 90 points. He reached career highs in his senior season with 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 42 games.

The Belleville Senators are 29-23-5 with 63 points, fourth in the North Division and are expected to make the playoffs.
