The Vancouver Canucks announced on Friday that they had traded forward Jack Studnicka to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Nick Cicek and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The 24-year-old Studnicka has one point in five games with the Canucks during the 2023-24 season. The Canucks placed Studnicka on waivers on Nov. 13 before sending him down to the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Abbotsford Canucks, where he collected one goal and six assists for seven points in nine games.

Studnicka is in his second season with the Canucks after he finished with eight points in 47 games with the team during the 2022-23 season. He was acquired by the Canucks in Oct. 2022 from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Michael DePietro and Jonathan Myrenberg.

A second-round pick for the Bruins in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Studnicka has six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 90 career NHL games. His professional career high in scoring took place during the 2019-20 season with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, scoring 23 goals and 26 assists for 49 points through 60 games.

Cicek, 23, has one goal and two assists for three points in 18 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda this season. Through three AHL seasons, Cicek has seven goals and 24 assists for 31 points through 108 games. He scored a career-high five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 53 games with the Barracuda in 2021-22.

In 16 games with the Sharks during the 2022-23 NHL season, Cicek has four assists.
