Sharks HC Bob Boughner was mostly asymptomatic during COVID-19 absence

San Jose Sharks head coach Bob Boughner told the press Wednesday he felt mostly fine during his time in the NHL's COVID protocol. It marked Boughner's first media appearance since he and seven players were placed in COVID protocol.

The team announced Boughner and several veteran players had tested positive for COVID just a couple of hours before puck drop against the Winnipeg Jets on Oc. 30. A total of nine players, as well as members of the Sharks" San Jose-based AHL franchise, have been placed in the protocol since that time.

While the team has remained closed-lipped about which players have been symptomatic, Boughner believes defensemen Jacob Middleton and Erik Karlsson were the first players to show symptoms.

Boughner told the media at the end of training camp in October the entire active roster is fully vaccinated.

Team Teal was forced to recall several players from their AHL squad to fill in the roster for their sidelined veteran staff. The team, comprised of many rookies over that stint, have gone 3-2-0 including Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the host Calgary Flames.

Boughner and the rest of the players in the protocol are expected to rejoin the team later this week in Denver before their first game of the season against the Colorado Avalanche.
