Dallas Stars left wing Jamie Benn Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Stars' Jamie Benn $5K for squirting Mackenzie Entwistle in the face with water bottle

The NHL fined Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn on Saturday for displaying "unsportsmanlike conduct" during Friday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

But he wasn't fined for anything he did on the ice — it was what he did while sitting on the bench that warranted the fine.

The incident in question took place after Benn's teammate Michael Raffl checked Chicago's Mackenzie Entwistle hard into the glass near Dallas' bench.

As Entwistle skated away past the bench full of opposing players, Benn squirted him in the face with his water bottle.

Regardless of how much money professional athletes make, it's fair to say that's a steep price for anyone to pay for some school playground-like antics.

The Stars won that game 1-0 in a shootout behind netminder Jake Oettinger's second-career shutout.
