The Dallas Stars have re-signed general manager Jim Nill to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Tuesday.

Nill, 64, has served in his current capacity with the Stars since 2013. He’s now under contract with the team through the end of the 2023–24 season.

The Stars have qualified for the playoffs five times during Nill’s tenure, most recently falling to the Calgary Flames in the 2022 Western Conference quarterfinals.

Under Nill, the Stars have acquired Tyler Seguin, Joe Pavelski, Jason Spezza, and Alexander Radulov. The club has also drafted Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, Jake Oettinger, Roope Hintz, and Denis Gurianov.

Nill has twice been named a finalist for the Jim Gregory GM of the Year award (2016, 2020), with his second nomination coming as the Stars made their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2000. Dallas ultimately fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

The Stars have posted a 356–259–84 record during Nill’s nine seasons as GM. Nill is the fifth-longest-tenured GM in the NHL, with only David Poile (Nashville), Doug Armstrong (St. Louis), Kevin Cheveldayoff (Winnipeg), and Jarmo Kekalainen (Columbus) preceding him in their respective managerial positions.

Nill played in the NHL as a defenseman from 1981 to 1990, appearing in 524 games with the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, and Detroit Red Wings. He subsequently helped the Red Wings win four Stanley Cups (1997, 1998, 2002, 2008) as an executive.
