Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

There are few more interesting storylines to follow this year than the race for the Calder Trophy.

For what feels like the first time in a while, the Rookie of the Year race seems as deep as it has for a while. Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Trevor Zegras, Tanner Jeannot, Dawson Mercer, Michael Bunting, Seth Jarvis, Anton Lundell and Bowen Byran make up just some of the highly talented first-year players that are taking the league by storm.

The Detroit Red Wings, meanwhile, have a trio of players, and on Friday’s episode of "The Daily Faceoff Show," Frank Seravalli and Scott Burnside dove into the debate.

Burnside: “I’m all in on the Red Wings. I know the voters and if you’re a Red Wings fan, you know the vote is going to be split. For me, I had Moritz Seider at number one. For me, Seider plays such a difficult position as a young defenceman. I just think what he is doing on both sides of the puck is so impressive. He is that guy in Detroit, maybe it’s Victor Hedman-like.”

Seravalli: “If you were to inject some truth serum into Steve Yzerman, he seems so strong-willed I don’t even know if he would answer… who he would say is the more impactful player to this team. Is it Seider or is it Raymond? I just look at Lucas Raymond and his point production at even-strength and I just feel as many minutes as Seider plays, as important as he is to that team, I don’t know the Red Wings are in this spot and a little more competitive than we thought without Raymond there.”
