The Pittsburgh Penguins had a couple of late scratches Monday before they faced the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, including goalie Tristan Jarry.
Monday morning, coach Mike Sullivan said Jarry would start in goal, ending a four-game absence in which Alex Nedeljkovic started. However, when the team began warmups, Nedeljkovic led the team on the ice.
According to the Penguins’ X account, Jarry was a late scratch due to illness.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dave Molinari, who is covering the game, reports Jarry participated in warmups, however, he was not on the bench as the teams emerged for the start of the game.
Nedeljkovic will make his fifth-straight start.
Defenseman John Ludvig, who has played on the third pairing with Jack St. Ivany in the last couple of games, was also a late scratch due to illness.
Nedeljkovic has points in four straight starts, though he’s only 2-0-2, as the Penguins have blown a pair of multi-goal third period leads. The Penguins squandered a 4-0 lead on the road against the Colorado Avalanche, then six days later wasted a 3-1 lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
In between, Nedeljkovic and the Penguins beat the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus at PPG Paints Arena.
