The Utah Hockey Club has come to terms with one of their own. Defenceman Sean Durzi has himself a new contract. He is staying put for the next four years and will have an AAV of $6 million per season. This is a great way to start the inaugural season in Utah.

Durzi Lands Contract with Utah

One of the sneakiest moves that the then Arizona Coyotes made was acquiring Sean Durzi. With an influx of defenceman on the Los Angeles Kings, Durzi was shipped to the desert and it immediately paid off. A loss for the Kings became their gain.

Durzi is a smooth skater and is good with the puck on his stick. While being stellar in his own end, he is a good offensive presence from the back end. Durzi has played three season and has gotten better with each one.

During the 2023-24 season, Durzi tied his career high in goals (9) and set a new career high in points (41). This was huge for him, as he had 38 points last season, so it was no fluke year. With the team shifting to Utah, Durzi becomes a key piece going forward, which is huge.

What this Means for Utah

The Durzi contract makes sense. Ever since parting with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Jakob Chychrun, having a puck mover is essential. Acquiring Durzi was such a smart move and it has paid off.

Durzi is a young player and is only getting better. He now joins a young and youthful core group that can build success in their new city. Having him on the back end makes the club better and he can build off a career season. His deal is at a great value and the team keeps a tremendous player in the fold for the foreseeable future.
