Valentine's Day power-play points prop bets

The thing to consider for PPP bets is that, typically, three of the five players on a power-play line are going to register the point if the team is to score.

I haven't yet figured out the right number to bet here when targeting a game. On Saturday, I bet two Columbus players to register a PPP, and the other three members of their line did while mine did not.

That felt cruel, but in many ways, it was a ceremonious win for the process. While that doesn't help the bankroll, it's important to note as we build a strategy around this prop.

These bets are all .25u wagers for me, as this remains an exploratory phase for this prop market.

Toronto

The Maple Leafs are in the best spot on paper to score a power-play goal. They own the second-best PP scoring rate, and Seattle is at the bottom of two important metrics: penalty kill rate and penalties per game.

The Kraken currently own the seventh-worst PK% in their past 10 and are averaging the 12th-most penalties per game.

Toronto should get both an above-average amount of power plays and have a big edge in quality of units on the ice if put in that man-up situation.

There are five players worth consideration for a PPP bet here: William Nylander, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly.

My two favorites are Nylander and Rielly.

Nylander has a PPP in two of his last three games and a PPP in 33% of his games this season.

I'm drawn to defensemen for a power-play point given they tend to operate at the top of the zone and facilitate puck movement.

At the best odds and with that in mind, I like Rielly.

Minnesota

The Wild are another team near the top of power-play success (seventh-best scoring rate) going against a Detroit team at the bottom of both statistical categories I'm tracking.

The Red Wings are averaging the ninth-most penalties per game and own the 12th-worst PK unit in the league.

I really like the odds for two players on Minnesota in particular to get a PPP.

Both members are on the top PP unit, and despite both recording a PPP in just two of their last 10, they offer value I can't ignore tonight.

PPP Bets on DraftKings: Jared Spurgeon (+490) & Joel Eriksson Ek (+360)

San Jose

While there are six teams with conceivable opportunities tonight, San Jose makes my final cut because of the opponent.

No team has a worse penalty kill than Edmonton, suggesting the Sharks shouldn't see much resistance should they get on the power play a few times on Monday night.

San Jose's top PP line consists of Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture, Alexander Barabanov, Timo Meier and Brent Burns.

Burns has been very involved the last few games the Sharks have had, registering a PPP in two of his last three and four of his last 10.

I'll add Hertl to the mix, bringing the best odds of the bunch. He has two PPP in his last 10 games.
