The Vancouver Canucks have unveiled their 2023 Pride Night jersey, designed by local artist Christina Hryc.

The uniform features modified versions of the orca and stick-in-rink logos on a white base. The Canucks will wear the jersey in warm-ups prior to their game against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena on Friday.

Both logos have been recoloured to match the 2SLGBTQIA+ pride flag, with the numbers on the back of the jersey also featuring rainbow colours. Hryc also included drawings of pansies and monarch butterflies in her logo designs.

The Canucks have also made sweaters, ballcaps, and T-shirts with the orca logo available for purchase.

“The rainbow is a visible symbol for pride and represents all who make up the vibrant community,” the Canucks said in a release on Thursday. “It’s a promise that equality and visibility are a priority.

“The monarch butterfly is a symbol of mental health awareness. A reminder to be kind to one another,” the Canucks’ statement continued. “The pansies are a nod to an early 2SLGBTQIA+ movement in the 1930s known as the Panzy Craze.”

The Canucks previously announced the full extent of their Pride Night plans on Wednesday, including a $20,000 donation to QMUNITY, a Vancouver-based non-profit that supports the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The team will also hold a “Pride Party on the Plaza” outside Rogers Arena prior to the game against the Flames, featuring musical and dance performances, a drag show, a beer garden, and an autograph session with Canucks alumnus Jyrki Lumme.

You’ll be able to watch the Pride Night game against the Flames nationally on Sportsnet and Sportsnet One, as well as on Sportsnet 650, on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. PT.
