Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy has announced that winger Michael Amadio will miss Thursday’s game against the New York Rangers due to an upper-body injury.

It’s unclear as to what caused the injury for Amadio, 27, as he played the entirety of Monday’s game against the Nashville Predators, so it was either tweaked during the game but playable at that time, or the injury occurred in the days after that game. There’s no indication as to the severity of the injury, but considering how last minute the decision to take the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario product out of the lineup was, it’s likely just a day-to-day concern.

Amadio is having another strong season in the Golden Knights’ bottom six, with 6 goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 42 games this year. It makes for a 33-point pace in a full season, which would be a career-high in points for the forward and the first time he’s hit the 30-point mark in a season.

Amadio was a former third round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2014 NHL Draft, and spent parts of six seasons in the Kings organization, including four at the NHL level, before he was dealt to the Ottawa Senators during the 2021 season. He then signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021 offseason, but played just three games with them before he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Golden Knights, where he’s since played up to this point, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 2023.

Amadio is currently in the final year of a two-year contract with a $762,500 cap hit, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the 2024 offseason.

With Amadio out of the lineup, Cassidy stated that the plan is to call up a forward from their AHL team, the Henderson Silver Knights. Who that player will be has yet to be confirmed.

The Golden Knights will look to build off of Monday’s win over the Predators when they host the Rangers on Thursday night at 10 p.m. EST. They currently sit in second in the Pacific Division with a 25-14-5 record.
