The Philadelphia Flyers would sure love to have some talent like this in their lineup right about now.

Appearing in a YouTube short with Russian hockey content creator Hockey Stigg, Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov taught and explained a masterful breakaway move he has in his locker.

The video was reposted to X/Twitter by user @Uggg_uggg with English subtitles, which helps shed some light on what Michkov is teaching and why.

In the YouTube short, Michkov approaches the goalie from the right side of the ice, feints left, and then uses his right hand to use his stick and poke the puck between the goalie’s legs.

Michkov’s move is very similar to the “No Move” technique that Nikita Kucherov is notorious for using. The only difference is Michkov pushes the puck into the net, while Kucherov relies on his deceptiveness to allow the puck to simply drift through the goalie.

“In this place, in this triangle, it is desirable to drag the puck with one hand,” Michkov explains, using his stick to point to the goalie who has his right leg down and his left leg up. “And so it turns out that you’re right there, the goalie is starting to sit down, and you preferably push the puck into the triangle right here. And that’s it.”

Michkov also explained to Hockey Stigg that he’s careful to watch the goalie’s movements, noting that there is an element of timing to master.

“Well, when he gets on his right leg, you immediately have to push the puck into the resulting triangle as quickly as possible before he puts his left leg down and sits completely on the ice and takes a position,” Michkov said.

In due time, the 19-year-old will be scoring on this move in front of thousands of Flyers fans at Wells Fargo Center.
