If the Philadelphia Flyers could stop time to substitute in prospect Matt Brown for breakaways, they probably would. Seriously. You might need to watch this goal multiple times to get a grasp on what actually happened.

Representing the Flyers organization for the ECHL All-Stars, Brown scooted in all alone on a breakaway and performed… something akin to the Michigan? The 24-year-old scooped the puck onto his stick, faked one way, and went the other over the opposing goalie’s shoulder. This is a goal you might see Youtubers and content-creators do, skating around for fun without professionals playing goalie for them, if they have a goalie at all. We might need a response from Trevor Zegras or Connor Bedard (when healthy) for this one.

Who is Matt Brown?

Brown, 24, is a former college hockey player who hails from Wood Ridge, NJ. He spent four years playing in the NCAA, split evenly between UMass-Lowell and Boston University. It was at Boston that Brown was teammates with current Flyers prospect Devin Kaplan, as well as failed Flyers draft pick Jay O’Brien. As you can probably deduct from the clip, Brown has spent most of his time this season in the ECHL, earning an All-Star selection.

In 26 games with the Reading Royals, he has 11 goals, 18 assists, and 29 points. In a brief four-game stint with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Brown picked up one assist. The former collegiate standout impressed for the Flyers during preseason, and it looks like he’s due for a step up in professional competition. It’s become apparent that his skillset and production transcend that of Reading and the ECHL.

With one eye looking towards the future, Brown could be a name to watch again this summer.
