Not everyone was happy that the Philadelphia Flyers were up 3-1 against the Chicago Blackhawks, which gave us our first Nick Seeler fight in nearly two full months.

With just over 17 minutes remaining in the third period, Blackhawks forward Reese Johnson made the bad business decision to engage Seeler in a fight, and it went about as poorly as you might expect. It’s not clear what caused the fight in the first place, though Seeler is not the type of guy to back down from a challenge.

The Flyers defenseman opens the tilt with a flurry of body shots, all of which connected with the stomach of Johnson. To Johnson’s credit, he did do well to use his left arm defensively to disrupt Seeler and knock his bucket off.

That’s about as much good as you can say about Johnson’s performance. Seeler got Johnson off balance with a few overhand rights and proceeded to tackle him to the ice from there.

Seeler’s last fight for the Flyers was nearly two months to the day; his most recent fight was against Detroit Red Wings forward Christian Fischer on Dec. 22. Excluding the preseason, this is Seeler’s fourth fight of the season for the Flyers.

Overall, the 30-year-old has now participated in 11 fights as a member of the Flyers, which includes one against current teammate Nick Deslauriers, oddly enough. Johnson has been in quite a few fights with the Blackhawks, though he’s only been in two this year, excluding the preseason.

Perhaps this fight means more for Seeler and the Flyers as the 2024 NHL trade deadline is fast approaching. Seeler has long been pegged as a candidate to be moved, with multiple NHL teams circling Philadelphia’s players.
