Watch: Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry scores goal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been desperate for depth scoring for two years now. They got some from a very unexpected source in their 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Starting goalie Tristan Jarry.

Jarry become just the 14th goalie in NHL history to score a goal — and the first Penguins goalie to do so — when he did this in the closing minute of the game.

Jarry has always been regarded as a strong puck-handling goalie and has taken his shots at empty nets before. This is the first time he actually connected on one at the NHL level.

His goal on Thursday also comes just a little more than a week after his teammate and backup, Alex Nedeljkovic, scored a goal for the Pens' minor league team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Along with the goal, Jarry also had an excellent game stopping pucks as he turned aside 39 out of 41 shots to help the Penguins steal a game where they were probably outplayed for much of the night.

Jarry was a big question mark for the Penguins coming into this season as his career has been defined by injuries and inconsistency.

Goaltending has been one of the things that have ruined the Penguins' chances in recent years, but management still gave him a long-term contract extension this offseason due to the lack of available options. He has been excellent so far this season, and now he has a goal to go along with his strong play in the crease.
