Watch: Penguins' Sidney Crosby scores 500th career goal
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby joined Alexander Ovechkin on Tuesday as the only two active NHL players with 500 career goals.
Crosby, 34, scored late in the first period against the Philadelphia Flyers when Evgeni Malkin found him with a pass during a power play.
Crosby was the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has spent his entire career with the Penguins. The only other player in franchise history to reach 500 career goals was Mario Lemieux, who finished his lengthy career with 690.
The 2021-22 season started slow for Crosby with just five goals through the Penguins' first 25 games. He's found much more success in the last month, though, as his goal Tuesday was his ninth in Pittsburgh's last 13 games. The Penguins currently lead the Metropolitan Division with 68 points, while the Flyers are last with just 38.
