Wednesday's Kraken-Jets game postponed due to expected winter weather

Easter weekend is approaching, but winter weather is nevertheless impacting the NHL's schedule through the middle of April.

According to the league's website, Wednesday's matchup between the Seattle Kraken and Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre has been postponed due to expected winter weather conditions in Manitoba that could include the "worst blizzard in decades."

The contest was moved to Sunday, May 1, even though the regular season was set to end on Friday, April 29.

Seattle is already eliminated from the playoffs, while Winnipeg began Tuesday five points back of the Dallas Stars in the race for the conference's second wild-card playoff berth with Dallas holding two games in hand. The Jets next play at the Florida Panthers on Friday.

"The decision to postpone the game at this time was made in order to minimize the potential disruption to the regular-season schedule in the event the severe weather that is expected to hit the Winnipeg area were not only to force cancellation of tomorrow night's game, but also prevents timely and necessary post-game travel, including, specifically, the Jets' ability to travel for their game in Florida on Friday, April 15," the NHL explained in an official statement.

According to TSN, Winnipeg residents have been told to expect "winds gusting up to 70 km per hour" and roughly 12-18 inches of snow beginning overnight Tuesday.
