Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

On today’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, hosts Frank Seravalli and Colby Cohen discuss who will make more money throughout their NHL career between Montreal Canadiens sensation Cole Caufield and Anaheim Ducks Trevor Zegras.

Frank Seravalli: One more this or that. Which restricted free agent, assuming they both sign long-term deals with their teams, will be paid more? Trevor Zegras in Anaheim or Cole Caufield in Montreal?

Colby Cohen: I think Cole Caufield in Montreal, I really do. I know you and I don’t see eye to eye on this one, Frank. I look at his pure goal scoring, his speed, and his coach who he plays for in Martin St-Louis. I think Marty is going to get the absolute best out of Cole Caufield. He’s still young, he’s still developing and ultimately I just like his game a bit more. Now Trevor Zegras is a Boston University guy, usually, my bias goes towards BU guys but at the end of the day I think Trevor is a fun player to watch, he’s exciting but I believe Cole Caufield will shake out to be the better player and get more money than Trevor Zegras.

Frank Seravalli: It is such a tough question since goals are usually at a premium but I think Zegras has caught the attention of a lot of fans around the NHL. Not just for the creative plays he makes, I think in this case Zegras is probably a bit more of a complete player at this point in the game than Cole Caufield is. There is still a lot of room for Caufield to grow. It’s a fantastic question because I could kind of see both of them in a very similar neighbourhood when it comes to average annual value (AAV) when it’s all said and done.
