Some news broke this morning following up from game two between the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche.

First and foremost, the NHL department of player safety has dropped a $2,500 fine against Zack Kassian.

From the bench in the third period, Kassian pulled off the helmet of Avs defenceman Bowen Byram, who was hit into the Oilers bench.

Another significant piece of news came as it appears there will be no supplemental discipline from the league in regards to Gabriel Landeskog’s hit on Kailer Yamamoto, according to The Athletic’s Peter Baugh. Landeskog had caught Yamamoto with a high, hard hit early in the first period.

While it didn’t seem to bother Yamamoto at the time, he ended up leaving the game with what was called an upper-body injury.

“I thought the player was in a vulnerable position. I thought the angle of the check and the principal point of contact was the head,” said Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft after the game. “It’s not my call, I don’t referee the games. I’ve said this ad nauseam during the playoffs: my job is to coach, not to make the calls. I’m sure the necessary people at the league will look at that hit.”

Woodcroft didn’t provide an update on Yamamoto’s status after the game.
