The incident occurred during the second period of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup qualifiers between the Blackhawks and Oilers on Saturday.
Caggiula was not given a penalty for the hit, and Ennis was able to finish the game. The 26-year-old has no history of being fined or suspended during his NHL career.
In 11:25 of ice time, Caggiula finished the game with four hits and one blocked shot in Chicago's 6-4 win over Edmonton.
If Caggiula is suspended, Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton will have to make a decision on who will replace him. MacKenzie Entwistle, Brandon Hagel, Philipp Kurashev, John Quenneville and Dylan Sikura all are available to play.
Game 2 between the Blackhawks and Oilers is scheduled to take place on Monday.
