The St. Louis Blues’ struggles continued Tuesday night at Enterprise Center, as the Detroit Red Wings handed them a 5-2 defeat. The loss marks the Blues’ fifth consecutive defeat and drops their record to 3-6-1. Despite leading in shots on goal for much of the game, St. Louis was unable to generate sustained offense or capitalize on power-play opportunities, leaving fans frustrated and questioning the team’s play.

First Period

The game began with a fast strike from the Blues, as veteran forward Brayden Schenn scored just 47 seconds in. The goal came after a sequence behind the net where Buchnevich and Broberg moved the puck around. A point shot from Broberg deflected off Parayko and landed on Schenn’s stick, allowing him to tap it in.

Schenn also set the tone physically. Early in the period, he skated over looking for a fight, but didn’t find one immediately. When the opportunity finally came, he dropped the gloves with Hamonic eight minutes into the game. His willingness to try and get he team going, same with the crowd, while producing offensively showed his leadership and presence on the ice.

Despite the strong start, the Blues allowed Detroit to respond. At 12:01, Ben Chiarot tied the game with a point shot that deflected off Blues defenseman Faulk. Later, a costly penalty by Dylan Holloway led to another scoring chance for Detroit. Alex DeBrincat converted a tip-in off a Moritz Seider shot at 19:24, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Second Period

The second period was an uphill battle for St. Louis. The Blues came out with urgency, generating immediate offensive opportunities, but Red Wings goalie John Gibson remained sharp, turning aside several high-danger chances. Defensive breakdowns plagued St. Louis, and repeated mental lapses allowed Detroit to capitalize.

Dylan Larkin scored on a well-placed pass from Simon Edvinsson at 11:14, followed by Elmer Soderblom’s goal at 12:56, making it 4-1 Detroit. The Blues’ power-play struggles continued, going 0-for-2 on the night, and their penalties prevented them from mounting any sustained momentum.

Third Period

In the third period, the Blues attempted to mount a comeback but struggled to establish any real offense. Their play was disorganized and clumsy, with repeated turnovers and failed zone entries.

Jordan Kyrou extended his point streak to eight games with a quick wrist shot goal at 15:36, assisted by Pius Suter, bringing St. Louis to within two. However, the Red Wings sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Dylan Larkin at 18:53, finalizing the score at 5-2.

Post-Game Notes

Jordan Binnington had a solid game, stopping 19 shots, but the Blues’ defensive coverage and inability to clear the crease were showing big issues. St. Louis led in shots on goal, 22-20, yet their inefficiency in finishing chances, coupled with penalties and defensive miscues, proved to be a big issue.

Injury concerns remain a challenge. Robert Thomas is still day-to-day with an upper-body injury, while Jake Neighbours has been placed on injured reserve with a leg injury and will be re-evaluated in five weeks. Their absence has been felt as the Blues continue to struggle with scoring depth and consistency.

Tuesday’s loss proves the need for St. Louis to tighten defensive coverage, improve special teams and generate more consistent offense. With a 3-6-1 record and five straight losses, the team will need to regroup quickly for their next matchup.
