The Anaheim Ducks will exercise the club option on head coach Dallas Eakins’ contract and retain him for the 2022-23 NHL season.

This comes after the Ducks' most successful season under Eakins. They were competing for a playoff spot for a good chunk of the season until an 11-game losing streak in March.

The Ducks are 75-96-30 in their three seasons under Eakins, ranking 25th in wins and 26th in points percentage with a .448 in that span, one of 11 teams to have a points percentage below .500. The Ducks have a 47.87% CF% and a 47.13% xGF% at 5v5 in that span, ranking 23rd and 25th in the league, respectively.

Eakins previously coached in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers for a season and a half from October 2013 to December 2014, posting a 36-63-14 record with the team.

He also coached in the AHL beforehand for eight seasons with the Toronto Marlies for four seasons before his gig with Edmonton and four with the San Diego Gulls before his promotion to the Ducks head coaching position. He has a 311-209-64 record in the AHL, with two division titles and five playoff appearances, including a trip to the 2012 Calder Cup Final with the Marlies.
