NHL Thursday bets: Navigating a big slate with five plays

We have quite the NHL slate tonight, 13 games in all. This amount of action both makes it more difficult to find our spots while simultaneously making it a bit easier. It can be a bit more simple to identify the plays that look the best to you, and that's what we have here.

Jordan Kyrou & Travis Konecny over 2.5 SOG (+152 DK)

Jordan Kyrou is probably my favorite standalone piece today. Nashville has gotten destroyed by shots lately, allowing 37.8 per game over the last 10, good for second-most in the league.

That number is 37.6 in their past 10 on the road, and Kyrou has been a steady source of offense for St. Louis this year. He's averaging 6.2 attempts per game in his past 10, going over 2.5 SOG in 11 of his last 16 home games.

Kyrou has loved seeing the Predators, tallying 5+ shots in three straight meetings and going over 2.5 in five of his last six.

I'll pair him with Travis Konecny, who has been heating up at home. In Philly, Konecny has 4+ shots in three straight, tallying 16 total on 24 attempts. He's hit this number in six of his last seven at home and two straight against Chicago. The Blackhawks allow 35.8 shots per game on the road in their past 10.

New Jersey & Edmonton over 2.5 goals in regulation (+152 DK)

I love the value here on both of the Devils and Oilers finding three goals in regulation. New Jersey averages 3.9 goals per game on the road in their last 10, and Seattle has seen 3.5 goals against them at home in the same stretch. The Kraken tend to find themselves in high-scoring games and have been playing seemingly every other day for weeks. At some point, they feel due for a crash. The Devils have scored three and four goals in two meetings with Seattle.

The Oilers will host a Lightning team on the second night of a back-to-back and fresh off Steven Stamkos scoring goal No. 500, which very well may have led to some celebration post-game.

Edmonton is averaging 3.5 goals per game at home over the past 10 and have scored 3+ goals in three straight meetings with Tampa. I like them to dictate the pace tonight.

Buffalo & Vegas over 2.5 goals in regulation (+137 DK)

We stick with two watered-down team totals and load up Buffalo and Vegas to find the back of the net. The love for the Sabres is relatively simple: they average 3.7 goals per game and the Islanders are seeing 3.3 against them in their past 10 road games.

Buffalo has found success against New York the past few matchups, scoring 4+ in four of five. Tonight we need just three.

Vegas is probably my favorite look of the evening for goals. Ville Husso continues to be a liability in net for Detroit, allowing 4+ goals in eight of his past 10 starts. His leaky ways has contributed to the Red Wings allowing 4.1 goals against them on the road in their past 10.

Vegas should be able to reach this number in 60 minutes. They've scored nine goals in the past two meetings with Detroit.

Brad Marchand over 2.5 SOG (-111 CZR)

I love this price on Brad Marchand, and I get it — the Rangers can be a bit tight to shots, but it matters not to me here.

Marchand is fresh off an 11-attempt game which yielded six SOG and a goal. He now has 11 SOG in his last three games and has covered this 2.5 number in four of his last six on the road. Against the Rangers, he's gone over this total in four of his last five meetings.

For all that New York is tight to, they have been vulnerable to shots from the LW, allowing the 13th-most to the position this season and the seventh-most over the past two weeks.

.5u: Jonathan Marchessault goal (+190 CZR)

While I've been trying to avoid double-dipping on a goal or point prop when I already have a team's total goals loaded up, I can't ignore how great Jonathan Marchessault looks tonight.

I certainly expect Vegas to find shots, both five-on-five and on the power play, and Marchessault hasn't been shy to let it rip. In the four games since his return from IR, Marchessault has averaged 3.5 SOG/game on 5.0 attempts/game. Despite the steady shooting, he hasn't found the back of the net in three games.

I like that to change here against Detroit. Marchessault has scored in three straight games against the Red Wings and has five goals in his past five against them. I'm comfortable doubling down on what is my favorite spot for scoring tonight.
