San Jose Sharks re-sign center Joel Kellman to two-year contract

The San Jose Sharks confirmed on Monday that the club has re-signed center Joel Kellman to a two-year deal.

Kellman, 26, made his debut with the NHL outfit on Dec. 21 versus the St. Louis Blues. In 31 total appearances, he tallied three goals, four assists, and a minus-one rating.

"Joel has proven himself at the NHL level with his intelligence and responsibility on both ends of the ice," San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said for the team's official website. "He took a big step last year in his development and growth as a player inside our organization and made an immediate impact after his promotion from the San Jose Barracuda."

Kellman was third on the Barracuda of the American Hockey League in assists and tied for fifth in points when the Sharks called him up to the main roster. Prior to his stints in North America, he played in the Swedish Hockey League.

The Sharks have been idle since March 12 due to the league postponing play because of the coronavirus pandemic. San Jose failed to qualify for the 24-team restart to crown a 2019-20 Stanley Cup champion and was last in the Western Conference standings when the league temporarily suspended the campaign.
