Senators’ Jakob Chychrun doubtful vs. Devils
Jakob Chychrun. Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith told reporters Friday that Jakob Chychrun is doubtful for tomorrow’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

According to TSN’s Claire Hanna, Chychrun did not participate in practice Friday. Smith told reporters that Chychrun “tugged something there a little bit, we’ll see how he reacts to treatment here.”

Chychrun had left Thursday night’s 7-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning with an apparent lower-body injury. During the second period, Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman slew-footed Chychrun, then in the third period, he and Lightning forward Michael Eyssimont crashed into the boards. Chyrhcun was able to get up but made his way to the bench favoring his left leg before heading down the tunnel to the locker room. Chychrun logged one assist, one shot, three hits, and five blocks in 18:07 of ice time.

The 24-year-old has registered two goals and three assists for five points in 12 games since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in a trade on March 1st. He has recorded nine goals and 33 points this season, split between the Coyotes and the Senators. Originally drafted 16th overall by the Coyotes in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Boca-Raton, FLolrida product had spent his entire career as a member of the Coyotes. He made his NHL debut in 2016-17; he spent seven years in Arizona, registering 60 goals and 110 assists for 170 points in 373 career games.

Additionally, forward Ridly Greig did not participate in Friday’s morning practice either. Greig, 20, logged 12:21 of ice time during Thursday’s victory over the Lightning. He has one goal and six points in 16 games this season.
