Timo Meier records first five-goal game in Sharks history

Timo Meier made San Jose Sharks history Monday when he scored five of the team's goals in a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

Meier, 25, scored three of his goals in the first period before adding two more in the second period to bury the Kings. His previous career high was three goals during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers in 2019.

Meier's big day was the 51st five-goal game in NHL history, but only the third in the last decade. Joe Malone owns the league record for goals in a game with seven, which he did in 1920 with the Quebec Bulldogs. There have also been seven six-goal games, although the last happened in 1976.

Selected by the Sharks in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Meier now has 108 career goals in 352 games with San Jose. In January, the Swiss-born player was named to his first career NHL All-Star Game roster.
