The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly not in the mix to acquire a former sixth-overall pick according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.
As the Vancouver Canucks and Patrik Allvin continue to search the trade market for an upgrade to their defensive group and more importantly, their top-four, it appears they're out of the running to land a former sixth-overall pick.
One name that has been quite popular on the NHL trade market in recent weeks is David Jiricek of the Columbus Blue Jackets, selected with the sixth-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Many thought that that the Vancouver Canucks could be a good fit for the 20-year-old, but that won't be happening unfortunately, according to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.
On Monday's edition of Canucks Central, Seravalli said that a deal involving David Jiricek could be getting close, but Vancouver is not in the running to land the top prospect.
'It seems like a David Jiricek move is a relative imminent transaction... Something that could be processed tonight... Can tell you it's not the Canucks.' Seravalli said on Monday.
Seravalli added that there are about five or six credible offers on the table for David Jiricek and that a decision on where he's heading could come in the next 24-to-48 hours.
'Since we've been talking, further update... the Blue Jackets are still going through the evaluation process. I think they've got 5 to 6 credible offers on the table that they're working through. Should happen in the next 24 to 48 hours.' Seravalli said.
Jiricek, a native of Klatovy, Czechia, hasn't been able to find consistent playing time in the National Hockey League despite him being ready to make the jump on a full-time basis.
In six games with the Blue Jackets this season, Jiricek has one assist, while in two games with their AHL affiliate in Cleveland, he's registered two points (one goal, one assist), two penalty minutes and is a plus-three.
While the Vancouver Canucks may be out on David Jiricek, Patrik Allvin will consider his options on the trade market, but there's one thing that's a certain - he'll definitely add a top-four defenseman before the March 7th deadline.
