PFF names this star pass-rusher as best player in the NFL

Pro Football Focus has officially named Cleveland Browns edge-rusher Myles Garrett the top-ranked player in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. This recognition cements Garrett’s status as the league’s most feared defensive force. After years of All-Pro production and game-changing plays, Garrett’s latest accolade comes as no surprise.

In 2024, Garrett posted the league's second-best PFF overall grade of 92.3, marking his fourth consecutive season with a 92.0 grade or higher. This level of consistency is almost unmatched among other pass-rushers and speaks volumes about his skill set and hard work ethic. At 29 years old, Garrett continues to be the heartbeat of the Cleveland Browns and is already building a resume that will make him a surefire Hall of Famer.

Garrett has been in the NFL for eight years, and 2024 marked his seventh straight season with over 10 sacks. In 2024, Garrett racked up 14 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, and 40 solo tackles. Garrett’s quick get off, refined pass rush skillset, and dominant strength make him a virtually unblockable player. Despite consistently being double-teamed, Garrett continues to impact the game. He is already a six-time Pro Bowler, a four-time First Team All-Pro and the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.

What makes Garrett’s top ranking much more significant is the context of today's dominant NFL. In a league where quarterbacks dominate MVP ballots and media headlines, it is rare for a defensive player to receive such high recognition. Garrett’s ability to take over games with dominant play has elevated him to a tier reserved only for the NFL’s most dominant players.

Already an accomplished player, Garrett has reached a level where his excellence is expected. His number one ranking is a reminder not to take it for granted. The Browns are attempting to do so. By resetting the quarterback room and stacking 2026 draft capital, it appears the Browns are going all in on a quarterback in next year's draft class. The team secured Garrett to a long-term deal and is now looking to become competitive again very soon.

If he continues on this path, not only will Garrett go down as one of the best players in Browns history, but he may very well end his career as one of the best defensive players of all time.
