Timberwolves part ways with president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas

The Minnesota Timberwolves shocked the NBA community on Wednesday and ahead of the start of training camp.

"Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas," reads a short statement from team owner Glen Taylor. "As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of."

Minnesota All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns seemed to react to the news via Twitter.

According to The Athletic, Rosas previously spent 16 years with the Houston Rockets' front office before he accepted the Timberwolves job on May 1, 2019. He also had a cup of coffee with the Dallas Mavericks in 2013 as their general manager but returned to Houston after only three months.

Per ESPN, Rosas was the highest-ranking Latino in an NBA front-office position until Wednesday's development.

Chris Hine of the Star Tribune reports "there has been a growing discord and strained relationships between Rosas, the front office and the rest of the organization" over the past few months. Hine added the team wanted to make a change now rather than suffer through lingering issues that continued through the regular season, which begins next month.

Minnesota went 19-45 in 2019-20 and then 23-49 in 2020-21.
