Georgia Tech flips safety Kealan Jones from Georgia Bulldogs

It's not very often that the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets outrecruit the Georgia Bulldogs, but when they do, it's a big deal.

It's also a credit to Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key because he does seem to be building something that could be very interesting down in Atlanta. He's coming off a 2025 regular season that saw the Yellow Jackets go 9-3 and spend a ton of time in the AP Top 25.

If he keeps recruiting at a high level, the success will continue for Georgia Tech. If he keeps flipping recruits from UGA, the sky could be the limit.

Georgia Tech's latest commitment is a flip from UGA in the person of three-star safety Kealan Jones from Marietta, Georgia.

Jones had been committed to Georgia since April of 2025, but the Yellow Jackets always kept in touch. They got him onto campus three times for game-day visits and over the summer got him in for an official visit.

Ultimately, Jones decided that the consistency he saw from GT was worth following up on.

“This was a really hard decision, because there are pros and cons for each school, especially with both being in-state,” Jones told Rivals. “Georgia Tech has always been there. They recruited me from the beginning, but I wasn’t always listening. It took some time to really think about it, and over time, it grew on me. I made the decision recently.”

Jones relayed that he felt the Yellow Jackets really made him feel wanted, and that's always a huge thing on the recruiting trail.

They also pitched him things every recruit wants to hear. He'll get a chance to play early, and he'll certainly get more opportunities to see the field quicker than he would at Georgia. He'll also be representing an in-state program that is on the rise, and that was very appealing to Jones.

“There’s a lot of positivity around the program,” he said. “They’re going up. The coaches are there, and now they’re getting the recruits. The program is on the rise.”

According to 247Sports, Jones is the No. 42 safety in the 2026 class. He's Georgia Tech's 20th commitment for this cycle.
