The University of Georgia football team didn't just win the Southeastern Conference championship on Saturday; they took it by force. The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs demolished No. 9 University of Alabama 28-7 en route to the program's first-ever back-to-back SEC championship.
After time expired in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs ran out onto the field not with a flag to plant on the field, but with belts in hand. These weren't wrestling replica title belts that the WWE sometimes gives winners of big games — those might come soon enough if Georgia makes it back to the national championship game — they were just regular old belts.
The message coming from the Bulldogs players? They weren't going to be upset by Alabama like they were earlier in the season. So they put a belt to you know what on Saturday, and the team clearly plans to bring that mentality to the playoffs.
For three quarters, Alabama didn't score any points. It wasn't until it was too late that the Crimson Tide got its first and only touchdown of the game. The Alabama offense came into the game as one of the best in the country. On Saturday, they rushed for negative three yards as a team.
So, if any player was going to lead their fellow student athletes in a rather aggressive celebration, it's fitting that defensive tackle Christen Miller took up the belt. While Miller didn't show up on the box score, the defensive line stiffled Alabama all night.

The Georgia defense sacked Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson three times, broke up six of his passes that could've been catches and recorded one interception with a 30-yard return. If the Bulldogs offense had played more than just efficiently, the scoreboard could have been much more lopsided.
Still, Georgia's dismantling of Alabama was thorough enough to potentially ruin the Crimson Tide's playoff hopes. Georgia not only gained their third SEC championship in the past four years, but also a first-round bye as a top-four-seeded team.
Georgia will need the week off as starting center Drew Bobo and running back Chauncey Bowens' game status is up in the air due to injury. Ultimately, though, if Georgia can keep up the intensity they displayed on the field and in the celebration of their victory, they won't be a team anyone in the postseason wants to see.
