Dan Hurley, UConn hire assistant coach to replace Luke Murray

Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies had another strong season in 2025 and made it to the NCAA Championship game, but they fell short of bringing home another title with a loss to the Michigan Wolverines.

There's always turnover on any successful NCAA team, and during the offseason, assistant coach Luke Murray left the Huskies to take over the head-coaching duties at Boston College.

Now, the Huskies have found his replacement. On Monday, the team officially announced that it's hiring Mike Pegues to serve as their new assistant coach.

Dan Hurley says he's 'excited' about adding Mike Pegues as assistant coach of Huskies

Pegues comes to UConn following four years with Butler, and he has more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience. During his time with Butler, the Bulldogs made two postseason appearances and won two in-season tournaments.

"Excited to add a coach of Mike's caliber to our organization," Hurley said about the hire in a statement. "He has proven throughout his career to be an excellent coach and a tireless recruiter. His ability to help develop our big men and his high-major experience, especially in the BIG EAST, will be huge for us. Mike is a well-respected figure in basketball circles who has succeeded at a high level for a long time."

Pegues also played basketball and is the all-time leading scorer in University of Delaware history with 2,030 points. So, having a coach who knows what it's actually like to play on the court is always a bonus.
