The longest-running one-hour drama in Canada, and worldwide fan favorite, is returning for an 18th season. 'Heartland,' is a Western, family saga that is based on the 'Heartland' book series written by Lauren Brooke. The show follows the young Amy Fleming and her family getting through life together on their ranch in Alberta.

Following a suspenseful season 17 finale, fans have awaited the hopeful announcement of a season 18. In early May, actress Amber Marshall who plays the star role of Amy Fleming in the show, posted a YouTube video that told us season 18 was currently being filmed. "Guess what," Marshall said, "you can check out season 18 in the fall!" Nothing else was announced immediately. CBC has not given an exact date, but fans are predicting a season debut around October. It is expected to premier in Canada then, but it will most likely not be in the United States until early 2025.

In an interview, the show's location manager, Brian Dunne explained that the production crew and cast would begin filming again starting May 13 and would continue through the middle of August. The filming is taking place in the Foothills Country and High River again, but Dunne also mentioned that some of the new episodes do introduce some new scenery as well.

What is expected in Season 18?

Season 17 left fans with some questions. Which of the cast is expected to return? What will happen next? Not all the details have been revealed, but the 'Heartland' blog gave us a hint of whats to come.

“In Season 17, the Heartland family know better than most that while dreams can sometimes come true, more often life takes us in unexpected directions. The new season is all about embracing the unexpected. It’s about new experiences and taking the path less traveled. In Season 17 the Bartlett-Fleming family will find themselves excited for the future and ready to embrace new adventures, challenges, and relationships. But no matter how much things may change, Amy (Amber Marshall), Lou (Michelle Morgan), Jack (Shaun Johnston), and Tim (Chris Potter) will continue to fight for what they believe in while staying rooted in the land that has been in the Bartlett-Fleming family for generations.”

Where can I watch Heartland?

Seasons 1-16 of 'Heartland' are out on Netflix, Peacock, and more. Up Faith & Family is the first to also stream season 17 to the United States as well. After some legal battles, in March of 2023, 'Heartland' among other popular shows is now exclusive to CBC. So depending on where you live, will decide how much of the feel-good show you can watch right now. In the United States, Netflix has stayed 2-3 seasons behind for the entirety of the show. It is expected that season 17 will be added to the Netflix realm in early 2025, but nothing is certain yet.

Be sure to catch up on with the Fleming-Bartlett family in seasons 1-16 and stay tuned as more 'Heartland' becomes available for streaming.
