Deemed one of America's favorite shows, 'Yellowstone,' is a contemporary Western saga that has fascinated audiences with compelling characters, the intense drama, and impressive cinematography. At the core of the series is the Dutton family and the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, whose story unfolds against a backdrop of untamed landscapes. While the shows narrative is fictitious, the filming locations show rugged authenticity and are a tangible link to what the show is all about.

Filming began in Utah providing that versatile canvas for capturing the wide ranging narratives of the show. There were over 20 locations where they filmed throughout the Beehive state. Up until season four, the greater part of the show was filmed there in Utah.

Now, a large majority of the production takes place in the Big Sky State of Montana. The plot of 'Yellowstone' follows Montana ranch owners bordering the Yellowstone National Park. Although the famous Dutton Ranch is only imagined for the show, the Chief Joseph Ranch is the perfect location to play the part. Even the Dutton family log cabin mansion is actually located on the property. It is a real life operating cattle ranch in Darby, Mont. that perfectly illustrates the storyline of 'Yellowstone.'

Also in Montana is the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, the largest reservation in the state. The scenes that were filmed on the land give a very accurate representation of the modern American Indian portrayed in the hit series. Even when things got more serious in courtrooms and the Govenors office, the production remained in Montana and moved to Helena where the State Capitol building is located.

During season 4, there were a few scenes that were shot in Texas as well. Owner of Mary's Brazos Cafe, in Weatherford, Texas was pleasantly surprised when they wanted to film a bit of the series there in the restaurant.

Season 5 Part 2 will premier in November, and is currently being filmed in Montana. To see all of the beautiful scenery and catch up with the Duttons, be sure to watch 'Yellowstone,' seasons 1-5.
