Big Sky Resort, MT is reporting 14 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours, according to a social media post published on April 17, 2024.

Like resorts to the south in Colorado, Big Sky skiers are taking advantage of what could be one of Winter's last gasps. Check out the fantastic powder skiing photos taken by Ethan Schumacher below.

Big Sky has experienced a season with many ups and downs in regards to weather and snow conditions, but it's safe to assume that most skiers aren't complaining about a mid-April dump.

The resort is currently reporting a maximum base depth of 62 inches with 100 runs open across 2,000+ acres. Not bad as Big Sky looks to round out its 50th season with a bang.

April 28th, 2024 will be the last day of the season, but don't fret. Big Sky is closing out the year with a weekend lineup of après music and DJs.

A late season storm of this magnitude can be tricky. On one hand, April storms can extend seasons and drastically improve the quality of the snow.

On the other hand, the higher sun angle and warmer temps can turn powder into hot, borderline-dangerously heavy, pow that will snatch your ACL faster than you can swap out your poor choice of goggle lenses.

The point I'm attempting to make, if you somehow could tell from the rambling above, is that spring storms are tricky. The excitement of bouncing tips in and out of fresh snow doesn't always pan out as well as one hopes.

Thankfully, our friends at Big Sky are expected to see highs in the low-30s and lows plunging to the single digits until the weekend. That should keep the snow fresh and fun before Spring make its return on Saturday and Sunday.

Have fun, wear your knee brace, and take it easy if you're headed to Big Sky this week.

Enjoy that POWDER!
