The March powder train keeps rolling on.

This morning, Monarch Mountain, Colorado, announced the arrival of a "surprise powder day" with four inches of fresh snow.

It's been a snowy couple of days for Monarch Mountain, with 26 inches of snowfall in the past week. Earlier this month, on March 14th, the mountain closed amid blizzard conditions as another round of powder blanketed Colorado.

Several other ski areas, including Eldora Mountain Resort and Arapahoe Basin, also closed on the 14th as the storm bared down.

In the long run, the closures have proved worthwhile, as all the snow prompted Monarch to extend its season an additional week until April 14th.

Despite the miraculous March conditions, Monarch Mountain is around 100 inches away from hitting its average snowfall of 350 inches.

The start of next month could inch Monarch Mountain closer to the 350 inch mark ahead of closing day. In his latest forecast, meteorologist Chris Tomer explained that Colorado could see a powdery refresh between today and April 5th.
