While Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado's lift-accessed skiing is now closed, the area opened for uphill skiing earlier this week on April 12th.

Uphill access at Telluride Ski Resort is human-powered with backcountry equipment only. Motorized vehicles, like snowmobiles, are prohibited, as is sledding.

Telluride Ski Resort advises uphill skiers to treat its piste as backcountry terrain and recommends using avalanche gear like beacons, shovels, and probes.

The resort noted that skiers should notify 911 in an emergency, as ski patrol is no longer responding to calls or performing avalanche mitigation work.

Despite the end of the lift-accessed season, Telluride Ski Resort's operations team remains active on the mountain, meaning uphill skiers could encounter snowmobiles, plows, and other equipment.

Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico—another closed resort—also recently opened for uphill, late-season access. Like Telluride Ski Resort, it prohibits the use of snowmobiles.

Catching a few uphill laps at your nearest closed resort is a solid, low-hassle way to squeeze a little more action out of your season. Just make sure you check their uphill policies first.
