Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has done quite well for the Spanish club and he is on the radar of multiple clubs. A report from Estadio Deportivo claims that the goalkeeper will leave Valencia at the end of the season and he is a target for big clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Tottenham.
The goalkeeper has a €100 million (£85m) release clause in his contract. The reported links with Tottenham will come as a major surprise. The report states that the goalkeeper is ‘on their agenda’ but Tottenham have recently signed Guglielmo Vicario as their first-choice goalkeeper, and it would be quite surprising if they decided to splash out on another shot-stopper.
Mamardashvili is likely to cost a premium and Tottenham have other priorities. They are unlikely to spend big money on another goalkeeper, especially when they are in desperate need of reinforcements in the attack and midfield.
It will be interesting to see where the 23-year-old La Liga goalkeeper ends up. There is no doubt that he has the quality to play for the biggest clubs in the world, but a move to Tottenham seems highly unlikely.
He won’t be guaranteed game time at the London club ahead of Vicario, especially with the way that Italian has performed so far. in addition to that, Tottenham will not want to spend £85 million on a player who will not be a key part of their starting lineup.
