Inter Milan saw their run of 28 matches in Serie A without a loss come to an end in their surprise defeat against Sassuolo.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

The last time that Inter had lost in Serie A prior to yesterday evening had come in the fall.

That loss was also to Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri had also suffered two defeats outside of the league.

There was a loss to Bologna in the Coppa Italia, and the second leg defeat to Atletico Madrid that saw Inter exit the Champions League at the round of sixteen stage.

Despite the disappointments in knockout competitions, however, Inter had been absolutely relentless in Serie A following their loss at home to Sassuolo.

There were a few minor slip-ups in the form of league draws.

Inter drew with the likes of Bologna, Juventus, Genoa, Napoli, and Cagliari.

But there were also 22 wins.

Inter soared at the top of the Serie A table, extending their lead and clinching the Serie A title.

And even after clinching the title, Inter didn’t initially let up. The Nerazzurri beat Torino last weekend.

But Sassuolo proved to be Inter’s “bogey team” once again in yesterday’s match.

The Emilian side scored early at their home ground. And they managed to dig in and protect their lead for ninety minutes.

The result is that Inter have not managed to go any further than 28 matches without a loss in the league.

Two losses to Sassuolo bookend a streak that is still clearly extremely impressive.

But there will not be an unbeaten run that stretches until the end of the season for the Nerazzurri.

And Sassuolo have, improbably, done the double over Inter.
