The current goalkeeper emergency at AC Milan is quite simply incredible, with Stefano Pioli currently missing three players between the posts.
After Alessandro Plizzari underwent surgery at the end of September, Mike Maignan also had to deal with his wrist injury surgically and will thus likely be out of action for the Rossoneri until the end of the year.
In the meantime, Antonio Mirante signed for the club as a free agent, but he is still not fit enough to be called up by Pioli, which means that the manager now only has two goalkeepers at his disposal: Tatarusanu and Jungdal.
In this context, however, there is an interesting name emerging in the Primavera team, as noted by Calciomercao.com: Sebastiano Desplanches.
Desplanches was born in Novara to a French father and an Italian mother. He began his career in Suno, a club in the Novara area which at the time was an Inter-affiliated football school.
Thanks to the contacts between the clubs he soon arrived at the Nerazzurri academy. In 2014, however, the relationship between Desplanches and Inter collapsed which led to the termination of his contract.
After that, his family turned to Mauro Bianchessi, who was then in charge of the Milan youth sector, who in a hurry signed him, also stealing him from Juventus who had inquired about him.
Already at that time, Milan were convinced that it was a big move and the goalkeeper’s growth is proving it since he had been included in the now-famous “Milan Gold” project which aimed to bring out the talent of the most promising players.
Desplanches is 1.86 cm high and has an already well-structured physique. He has great reactivity and rapidity of the descent to the ground in close shots, a rare quality for such a tall goalkeeper.
Since joining Milan he has always played and also featured for the youth national teams for Italy, from the U15 to U17 and now in the U19, for which he recently played three matches against Slovenia, Iceland and Lithuania and conceded 0 goals.
Calciomercato.com adds in its report that Milan is betting a lot on him, which the club also expressed with a new contract on March 12 until 2023, Desplanches’ first professional one.
At that time, his agent Andrea D’Amico declared: “Is he Donnarumma’s heir? Yes, he is a great talent that will have to be monitored. Milan know what kind of player they have and the national team knows it too”.
