A transfer battle may look this summer for Manchester City’s potential Kevin De Bruyne successor Florian Wirtz. The German international has shone for Bayer Leverkusen this season as they have stormed to the top of the Bundesliga. A fresh report from SportBild indicates that City would have a battle on their hands to sign the German international.

SportBild reports that a three-way battle between Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid may ensue for Wirtz. They add that Bayern Munich were interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s young midfield starlet but are out of the race due to his wage demands. Furthermore, SportBild reports that a fee of around €130 million will be required to secure the youngster this summer. SportBild further reports that Real Madrid has their eyes on a 2025 deal for the young star. They add that Manchester City and Liverpool may act this summer to seal a move for the young prodigy.

Florian Wirtz may be the ideal player to assume Kevin De Bruyne’s mantle

Florian Wirtz could be the ideal player to eventually replace Kevin De Bruyne. The Manchester City legend will turn 33 in June and is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. He did miss 5 months of this season due to a hamstring injury and subsequent surgery to repair the injury. De Bruyne has returned in fine form since his return and does appear to have a few seasons left in him at an elite level.

But Manchester City are always planning for the future with the make-up of their squad. This is evident in their reported deal for Brazilian winger Savio. In Florian Wirtz, they could potentially land the ideal player to learn from and eventually replace the club legend. While Kevin De Bruyne is a one-of-a-kind player the young German international does have the tools required to make an impact in Pep Guardiola’s squad. He has scored 8 goals and added 16 assists in 30 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s side this season. That indicates that he has the creativity and eye for a goal to potentially replace Kevin De Bruyne in time for Manchester City.

A battle may be on the horizon for Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne successor. If Florian Wirtz is available this summer it can be rest assured that the champions will be at the front of the queue to sign one of world football’s hottest prospects.
