AC Milan hero Gianluca Zambrotta supports the addition of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the management team.

But he insists the club is still recovering from the sackings of former sporting directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara last year.

Zambrotta told Tuttosport: "If I were the sporting director of AC Milan, which would be the first move to strengthen the team? We need a real number 9. The club must sign a top-level centre-forward, even more so if Giroud leaves.

"A new striker can change the team: it is the first piece to take into consideration. Then a defender of personality and quality who can help others."

Asked about Ibrahimovic, Zambrotta also said: "Surely the club can start again from Zlatan who knows Italian football well and can make a significant contribution. But, in my opinion, the departure of Maldini and Massara was felt because they had done a great job. The important thing now is finishing the season well starting from the Europa League and then planning the next one well."
