Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga is currently on loan at the Championship club Millwall.

Initially, the defender joined Augsburg on loan at the start of the season but the move did not work out. He was sent back to Tottenham in January and the north London outfit sent him to Millwall for the remainder of the campaign.

So far, the 24-year-old has been quite impressive for the Championship outfit and there have been links with Napoli.

The defender’s agent has now responded to the links with the Italian club stating that he and his client would be very happy to join a big club like Napoli if there is a concrete proposal on the table.

“I don’t really like talking about one of my clients,” he told Calcio Napoli 24 Live.

“He has a particular contract with Tottenham, who can exercise the option for another year, otherwise he will be free. We should wait for a date to see what happens.

“How can you not consider Napoli? The player was close to Milan a year and a half ago. Naples is a top club on a national and international level. Should there be any interest we would be happy.”

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Tanganga is versatile enough to operate as a central defender as well as a full-back. He could prove to be a useful squad player for the Italian club. Given his situation at Tottenham, he could be available for a reasonable price as well.

Tanganga needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and Tottenham will not be able to provide them with that opportunity. If Napoli can provide him with the necessary game time assurances, a move to the Italian club would be ideal for him.

Napoli have looked vulnerable defensively this season after an impressive title winning campaign last year. Signing quality defenders should be a top priority for the Italian giants.
