New Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero ranked Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe just behind Lionel Messi as the second best forward in football today.

Mbappe furthered his case this past season to become the next top player in the sport. From the key goals in Ligue 1 to the astounding performances in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage, the PSG star put together arguably the most complete season of his career so far.

Aguero had a front-row view of Mbappe’s prowess during the Champions League semifinal tie between Manchester City and PSG this past season. While Mbappe was not at his best over the tie, the Argentine striker still sees (via AS) the French goal-scorer as one of the top forwards today.

“The best forward (in the world) is Mbappe, aside from Messi,” Aguero said. “Leo will always be for me one of the best in football and in history.”

Mbappe is among the early favorites for the Ballon d’Or award this year and is expected to face competition from the likes of Messi for this annual honor.
