Defender Alfie Gilchrist has said his first words after the club have confirmed some big news about the popular fan favourite.

Gilchrist has been handed a few starts by manager Mauricio Pochettino this season and he is always on the bench and in the squad, providing some deep cover.

Today Chelsea announced that he has signed a new contract extension at the club.

Gilchrist has signed a new contract until 2026, with a further one-year option, as confirmed officially now on the club website today.

Gilchrist has also done a short interview on the website after signing his new deal.

‘Signing this contract at Chelsea is a massive achievement for me and my family,’ said Gilchrist. ‘It was a no-brainer and every time I’ve signed a contract here it has felt nicer and nicer. But now I want to keep on pushing on and keep improving.’

He is certainly a very proud Chelsea player who plays with his heart on his sleeve and gives it all for this club and the badge he is wearing. Whether he will actually ever nail down a regular starting place for Chelsea or not remains to be seen at this point, but it’s great that he’s been extending for now.
