Toronto FC forward Lorenzo Insigne has experienced sub-par two seasons in the Canadian capital, with the club culminating their 2023 season on a poor note following a seven-match losing streak. Fitness issues have plagued the former Napoli icon as well, and he could soon make his way back to Italy after a short MLS stint.

Insigne recently signed a contract with one of football’s biggest player agencies, CAA Stellar, which manages the likes of Jack Grealish, Nicolò Fagioli , Gianluca Scamacca, and Eduardo Camavinga. As per latest reports from Calciomercato, Stellar, led by super-agent Jonathan Barnett, is seeking to pave a path back to Serie A for Insigne.

Insigne, 32, is reportedly confident of possessing more than enough in his striking arsenal to make a difference in a top league, and two teams have been mentioned to be in the running. All roads lead to Rome for Insigne, who has garnered interest from the capital’s biggest clubs, Lazio and Roma.

With Insigne’s former manager Maurizio Sarri now at the helm at Lazio, there is confidence in the Italy forward being able to find the best form back. Reportedly, both the personalities have been in touch over the years, since Insigne departed to North America, with an exploratory phone call carried out recently.

Roma, on the other hand, are said to have plans for a loan deal in January with the obligation to buy come next summer. However, it is Lazio who have the upper hand with Sarri’s presence.

Either way, Insigne will have to shed a large part of his €7.5M net per season salary to make his way back to his homeland. It could also work otherwise, as he is in line for a substantial pay hike if he moves to Saudi Arabia, from where he has received interest as well.
